Havering Athletic Club
Havering athletes won a record 7 medals at the English School Championships. Shandell Taylor set a new championship record winning the senior long jump but also broke the club record set by the great Fred Alsop in 1964. Max Law, the previous week finished 4th in the European U18 championships in Hungary in a new club javelin record, adding another gold, and followed up last weekend with victory for the English Schools team at the Schools International in Scotland. Lola Kuponiyi added the 3rd gold by club members, backed up by 2 silvers and 2 bronze medals from the record 15 club athletes taking part.

The Youth Development League U13 & U15 team finished 3rd in the Southern Premier division fixture to confirm 3rd place in the league. The U15 girls sprint relay squad broke the club record dating back to 1971 at the Essex relay championships at the end of June, improved it further on Sat 21st and again next day at the Club: Connect relays at the Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium, finishing 4th. The U13 girls & U13 boys relay teams also took part.  The YDL U17s & U20s lead the table with the final fixture to come this Sunday 29th July.

The club's Spitfire Scramble team defended their title at the 24 hour race at Hornchurch Country Park, setting a new record for the number of laps completed in the 24 hours. The senior UK Women's team finished 2nd at Liverpool at the start of the month, and the men are safe in Division 2 with one fixture left.

About 50 members recently took part in the Spitfire Scramble - a 24 hours race in Hornchurch Country Park.
